Hot tub removal: what to unplug first
An old hot tub is one of the toughest things to get rid of — and one of the easiest to prepare for, if you know what to disconnect.
Hot tubs are heavy, awkward, and wired in permanently — which is why so many of them sit unused in backyards for years after they've stopped working. Removing one takes planning, but it's very doable.
Here's the one thing we ask of every customer before we arrive: handle the wiring and plumbing. For safety and for liability, the electrical and water connections need to be disconnected before we start.
Before we arrive
Unplug the wiring
Turn off the breaker and disconnect the power feed to the tub. Hot tubs are wired in permanently, so this means shutting off the circuit at the panel and disconnecting the supply line — not just flipping a switch on the unit.
Disconnect the plumbing
Cut or disconnect the water lines feeding the tub. If you can drain it beforehand, that saves weight and time — though it isn't required, and we can handle a full tub if draining isn't practical for you.
Clear a path
Make sure there's a clear route from the tub to where we can park. Move patio furniture, planters, and anything else in the way. Gates need to be wide enough for the tub or accessible enough for us to break it down on site.
Tell us about surprises
Decking built around the tub, a crane lift needed, or stairs in the way — let us know when you book. It changes how long the job takes, and it's much easier to plan for than to discover on the day.
How hot tub pricing works
Hot tubs are priced separately from standard load pricing, because the job varies so much from one to the next. Our range is $350 – $550, depending on the size of the tub, how accessible it is, and where it sits on the property.
A small tub on an open patio is a very different job than a seven-seater built into a deck with a fence in the way. When you call or book, tell us the size and the layout, and we'll give you a number before we come out.
One more thing worth knowing: we handle disposal too, so you don't need to figure out where a dead hot tub goes. We take it from the pad to the appropriate facility and you're left with your yard back.
